The United States has a 27-14-2 record entering the 44th Ryder Cup dating back to 1927. However, the Americans actually have a losing record since the team of Great Britain or Great Britain/Ireland, as it was known from 1927-1977, was changed to Team Europe in 1979. Team Europe has an 11-9-1 record against Team USA in the last 21 Ryder Cups, including winning four of the last six tournaments. The 2023 Ryder Cup tees off on Friday at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, just outside of Rome, Italy. The Americans haven’t won the Ryder Cup on European soil since 1933.
Team USA is listed as the slight +110 underdog (risk $100 to win $110) in the latest 2023 Ryder Cup odds. Team Europe, led by Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, is the -105 favorite. A tie returns +1100 and there are a bevy of 2023 Ryder Cup props on the Ryder Cup odds board. There are plenty of ways to bet on the Ryder Cup 2023, but before you lock in your 2023 Ryder Cup picks, be sure to see the best bets and predictions from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.
McClure’s proprietary golf model has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.
In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
Now, McClure has evaluated the 2023 Ryder Cup odds and locked in his best bets. Head to SportsLine now to see the top picks and predictions for the Ryder Cup 2023.
Top 2023 Ryder Cup predictions
McClure’s 2023 Ryder Cup best bets include backing Wyndham Clark to finish as the top USA rookie at +260 odds. Clark had a strong finish to the summer, including finishing third at the Tour Championship in the season’s final event. Clark won the U.S. Open and Wells Fargo Championship as a part of a season in which he had eight top-10 finishes in 28 events.
Clark has climbed to No. 10 in the world and could play a key role for an American team to win its first consecutive Ryder Cups since 1991 and 1993. The 29-year-old was 12th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained, 11th in driving distance and 15th in scoring average on the 2022-23 PGA Tour season. Clark was 22nd in one-putt percentage (42.48%), and Clark has the all-around skillset to easily become the top-finishing USA rookie at the Ryder Cup 2023.
McClure is also targeting Ludvig Aberg to finish as the top European rookie at +165 odds. The 23-year-old Swedish golfer played in nine PGA Tour events this season, finishing as high as T-4 at the John Deere Classic. He also finished T-14 at the Wyndham Championship in his final PGA Tour appearance of the 2022-23 season in August.
Aberg has won the Ben Hogan Award in the last two years as the best college player in America while competing for Texas Tech University and he’s won back-to-back Big 12 championships. He joins tremendous company as the first two-time winner since Jon Rahm, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the world. Aberg, who was No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking before turning pro in June, is one of just four rookies competing for Team Europe and has a strong chance at putting together the best performance of any of them.
