Xander Schauffele will look to defend his title when the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open tees off on Thursday, July 13, from The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. Schauffele secured the victory with a 7-under par performance in 2022, the first time since 1998 the winning total was single-digits under par. He’ll have some stiff competition in the Genesis Scottish Open 2023 field, with the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler set to tee it up this week.
Schauffele, who’s finished T-10 or better in six of his last nine starts, is listed at 14-1 to repeat according to the latest 2023 Genesis Scottish Open odds. Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world, is the 7-1 favorite, with McIlroy (17-2), Patrick Cantlay (14-1) and Fowler (16-1) next in line on the PGA odds board. Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.
In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
Now that the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top 2023 Genesis Scottish Open predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the Genesis Scottish Open 2023: Schauffele, the defending champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and fails to crack the top five. Schauffele has been extremely consistent this season, securing a top-25 finish in 14 of his 17 starts on the PGA Tour.
However, Schauffele has yet to win this season and he’s finished T-18 or worse in three of his last four starts. Schauffele’s recent results can be directly attributed to his struggles with accuracy off the tee. The 29-year-old enters the Genesis Scottish Open ranked 100th in driving accuracy percentage (58.91%). He also ranks 128th in proximity (38’9) on approach shots. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open field.
Another surprise: Tyrrell Hatton, a 20-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.
Hatton enters this week’s event full of confidence. That’s because the 31-year-old has finished T-15 or better in five of his last six starts. The Englishman is also accustomed to playing links-style golf, which will be a major advantage at The Renaissance Club. Hatton enters the Genesis Scottish Open ranked third in strokes gained: total (2.091), fifth in strokes gained: putting (0.730) and 13th in scoring average (69.55). Those impressive stats, plus his long odds, make him a strong value pick for your 2023 Genesis Scottish Open bets this week. See who else to pick here.
