The 2023 PGA Championship starts Thursday, May 18 in Rochester, N.Y. Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy are just a few of the stars in a 2023 PGA Championship field that includes 99 of the top 100 golfers in the world. They will tee off on a challenging East Course at Oak Hill Country Club, and anyone building 2023 PGA Championship fantasy golf rankings will have plenty of tough choices to make. Multiple major champions like Rahm, McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, defending champion Justin Thomas and 2021 PGA winner Phil Mickelson all will vie for the Wanamaker Trophy, but who can you count on for your 2023 PGA Championship fantasy golf picks?
Before setting your 2023 PGA Championship fantasy golf rankings or making any 2023 PGA Championship picks, you need to see the Fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from SportsLine Fantasy expert Jim Holliman.
Holliman has been on a roll since last season, and he was all over Tony Finau to win the Mexico Open at Vidanta, tabbing him as his top pick. The expert had Finau and Jon Rahm in his top three, even though Finau hadn’t finished in the top 15 since February. Holliman wasn’t fazed, saying the 33-year-old “should find his footing this week.” He certainly did that, going 24 under par and prevailing over world No. 1 Rahm by three strokes. In addition, longshot play Eric Cole (+10000) posted a top-five finish in the Mexico Open.
The expert also nailed the Masters when he backed Rahm as his top choice, and six of Holliman’s top eight picks at the RBC Heritage finished in the top 15, including winner Matt Fitzpatrick. At the Valspar, the expert was on Taylor Moore (+5000), who hadn’t finished higher than 35th in his previous three outings. Holliman also backed Scheffler to win the Players Championship at +1000 and was behind Chris Kirk at the Honda Classic, backing the +2500 shot before his first victory since 2015. Anyone who has followed Holliman’s predictions is way up on their golf picks.
Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers for his 2023 PGA Championship fantasy golf rankings. You can only see his Fantasy golf rankings and PGA Championship 2023 picks at SportsLine.
2023 PGA Championship fantasy golf picks
One player Holliman is firmly backing at Oak Hill is Scottie Scheffler. The 2022 Masters champ’s versatile game is perfect for Oak Hill. Combined accuracy and distance off the tee will be crucial, and Scheffler is third on tour in total driving and 22nd in accuracy. The 26-year-old is also second in scoring average (69.16). He will want to atone for his performance in his Masters title defense. Scheffler shot a second-round 75 at Augusta, but managed a tie for 10th. He has finished in the top 12 in 11 straight tournaments, with two victories. See who else to back at SportsLine.
On the other hand, Holliman is completely fading Justin Thomas, nearly leaving the defending champ out of his top 10. The 30-year-old has just two top-10 finishes this season, but Oak Hill isn’t a place where Thomas can save himself with his elite short game. Thomas has been erratic off the tee (117th in driving accuracy) while missing greens (100th in greens in regulation) and putts (132nd in strokes gained). That isn’t a recipe for success on the tough course he’ll face this week. See who else to fade at SportsLine.
How to set your 2023 PGA Championship fantasy golf lineups
For the PGA Championship 2023, Holliman is backing several longshots in his 2023 PGA Championship fantasy golf lineups, with one of his top 10 players priced well over 30-1. He also is getting behind a longshot player priced at almost 100-1, saying, “If (he) is going to win a major, this is the one.” You can find out who it is, and check out Holliman’s 2023 PGA Championship fantasy rankings, only at SportsLine.
